Known Issues and Workarounds
This article lists confirmed known issues across all Spherene products, with current status and workarounds where available. Updated when new issues are confirmed or resolved.
Note: Spherene operates as a two-component system: a local plugin (or browser client) and a cloud computation engine. Cloud engine updates may occasionally produce unexpected results. When reporting a bug, always note your plugin or platform version and whether the issue appeared after a recent update.
Plugins: Cloud computation
Density estimate precision (+/- 10%)
|
Issue |
Status |
Workaround |
|
Effective density/volume fraction is an estimate. When using a constant density field, actual density may differ from target by approximately +/- 10%. |
Known algorithm limitation. Not expected to be resolved. |
Account for this variance when setting density targets for structural or print-weight specifications. Validate by measuring output geometry volume in your CAD tool. |
45-minute cloud compute limit
|
Issue |
Status |
Workaround |
|
Jobs exceeding 45 minutes are automatically halted with an error message. |
Platform limit. Will not be removed. |
Increase DRT to reduce computation time. Use Single Surface output during iteration. Only run Production quality Solid Surface for the final export. |
Memory limit error on large or complex envelopes
|
Issue |
Status |
Workaround |
|
Very low DRT values on large envelopes exceed the cloud memory ceiling. |
Platform limit. Will not be removed. |
Keep DRT at 0.4 mm or higher during iteration. Split large envelopes into sub-volumes if memory errors persist. |
Plugins: Rhino
Field labels not visible after assignment
|
Issue |
Status |
Workaround |
|
After assigning field points, colour-coded labels do not appear in the Rhino viewport. |
Intermittent display issue. |
Restart Rhino. Use the Inspector panel to verify field points are correctly assigned even when labels are not visible. |
sphe_ commands not available after installation
|
Issue |
Status |
Workaround |
|
After running the installer, Spherene commands do not appear in the Rhino command autocomplete. |
Occurs when Rhino was open during installation. |
Close Rhino fully and reopen. If commands still do not appear, re-run the installer with Rhino closed and confirm the plugin appears in Tools > Options > Plugins. |
Plugins: Grasshopper
Components appear pink or unrecognised after opening a saved file
|
Issue |
Status |
Workaround |
|
Spherene components in a saved .gh file appear pink when opened on a different machine or after a plugin update. |
Occurs when plugin version differs from the version used to create the file, or plugin is not installed. |
Confirm the plugin is installed and activated. Save, close, and reopen the file. If components remain pink, delete and re-place them from the Spherene tab. |
Plugins: Fusion
Field labels not visible after assigning a field
|
Issue |
Status |
Workaround |
|
After assigning a field in Fusion, colour-coded labels do not appear in the viewport. |
Known display issue related to Active Component Visibility setting. |
Click the Refresh button in the Utilities section of the Spherene toolbar. If still not visible: go to Fusion Preferences > Design > Assemblies, uncheck Active Component Visibility, click OK, then Refresh. |
Hybrid Design template required for new files (January 2026 update)
|
Issue |
Status |
Workaround |
|
Using a non-Hybrid Design template when creating a new Fusion file can cause unexpected behaviour with the Spherene plugin. |
Behaviour introduced with Fusion January 2026 template update. |
Always create new Fusion projects using the Hybrid Design template. For existing files, recreate the project in a new Hybrid Design file if unexpected behaviour occurs. |
Plugins: nTop
Open mesh warning after Single Surface computation
|
Issue |
Status |
Workaround |
|
After computing Single Surface output, nTop displays an "open mesh" warning on the result. |
Known nTop visualisation artefact for zero-thickness meshes. Not a geometry error. |
Ignore if working with Single Surface for design review. For downstream use, thicken the surface or re-run with Solid Surface output. |
Create Spherene block triggers automatic re-computation
|
Issue |
Status |
Workaround |
|
The Create Spherene block recomputes every time any input attribute changes, consuming credits. |
Expected nTop Auto Run Mode behaviour. Not a bug. |
Right-click the block header immediately after adding it and select Manual Run Mode. Required each time a new Create Spherene block is added. |
SphereneNXT: Known issues
Background import may show a spinner on very large files
|
Issue |
Status |
Workaround |
|
Large mesh or STEP files (over 200 MB) may take several minutes to import. The interface remains responsive but shows a background import indicator. |
Expected behaviour for large files. |
Wait for the import to complete before configuring fields or triggering compute. The pre-flight estimator will not be available until the import finishes. |
Unit switching may require a page refresh to update all labels
|
Issue |
Status |
Workaround |
|
After switching units in the platform settings, some labels in the viewport or field configuration panel may not update immediately. |
Known display issue. Fix in progress. |
Refresh the browser page after switching units. All values and labels will update correctly after reload. |
Undo/Redo does not affect compute results
|
Issue |
Status |
Workaround |
|
The Undo/Redo system covers field and modifier configuration changes, but does not undo a completed computation or its result. |
By design. Compute results are permanent once generated. |
Remove unwanted results manually from the Results panel. Use descriptive Part Names to track iterations. |
Reporting a new issue
